' Last One Out ' - Keith Hill
On Jan 23rd 1943 the 8th Air Force struck the U-boat pens at Lorient, France. 'Beats Me', B-17 from the 303rd
Bomb Group, RAF Molesworth was hit by bombs from the aircraft above. The surviving crew members bailed out
before the aircraft plunged to Earth. Last One Out was S/Sgt Charles L. Roth. As he was floating to Earth the
FW-190, which he had fired upon and hit before parachuting, approached him. He feared he would be shot but
instead the German pilot saluted Charles and he spent the rest of the war as a POW.
